The Coast Guard’s recreational-boater resources promote vessel safety checks as a way to review required and recommended equipment without waiting for an emergency.
A check can cover life jackets, registration, navigation lights, ventilation, fire extinguishers, distress signals and pollution placards as applicable to the vessel.
Passing a check is not a warranty of seaworthiness. Continue inspecting systems, weather readiness, fuel and crew capability before every trip.
